Baran Caginli was born in Istanbul in 1990. The artist who lives and works in Helsinki, brings together different disciplines in his works. The framework of his work constitute topics related to  issues such as systematic repression, extermination, dissapearence, amnesia, ethnic discrimination, state  power, forced migrations, forced disappearances but in the same time re-appearance, collective memory and State’s contradictions. Under these topics, most objects and people he has included in his works are in the position of witness of an incident. Although these witnesses belong to local problems and realities, they also refer to problems and witnesses in different geographies and in different contexts of power. The artist who received the ESSL Museum Art Award in 2015 in Vienna has been in various collections as well as projects, nationally and internationally.
